The doors were tall, but not 16 ft - the transom window above reduces their height a good bit.

I think the moisture got into many of them, turning the biscuits into mush. There could've still been some dry ones left, but I'm sure these expire at some point (60 years is asking a lot!)

It's odd - there was debris in the basement of course, but not as much as I would expect from the ground floor plus the collapsed roof. Perhaps some of it was cleaned out.

I believe it was the boiler area.

BKW - thanks; it looks like the panels of color were repainted in 2008. Here's how it looked before the restoration work: http://www.nickgruenberg.com/9ritz.html Yup there's always more creepy hospitals ahead...

I think the town is hoping someone will be able to purchase and fix up the rest of the building. The Historic Natchez Foundation spent about $100,000 on the facade work.

Thanks Jeni. I've seen stacks of "Restraint and Seclusion Order" cards from the early 1970s; they were all signed by a doctor and were almost always filled out in the same fashion; form of restraint: "Camisole," reason: "To prevent injury and self & others." These descriptions may as well have been pre-printed on the card as they were all precisely the same. Maximum limit (back then, I guess) was 2 hours, with a minimum of 15 minutes before being placed back in. Many cards detailed almost 24 hours of seclusion or restraint with these 15 minute breaks required by law.

It's a lab desk - they have built-in sinks so you can wash out your glassware and dissection tools without having to wait in line for the other classmates.

Yup, the Ladd School property is privately owned (I assume by the state of RI), and it's possible to get in trouble by walking on the grounds or in the buildings.

Hmm, not sure where those pics came from. Unfortunately I've lost the originals from some of these old sets, so this set is the only version I have.

Yeah I didn't notice a water line here, or in the Dixie Brewery which is only a few blocks away. I presume this area was at a higher elevation.
