Natchez is a small town that seemed rather well-maintained, and I was surprised to see the abandoned Ritz theater still standing among a cluster of art galleries and boutique stores. It didn't look to be in terrible shape from the street - I later learned the facade was given a facelift in recent years. Looking at some photos from the 1990s, I could see how the place would have been considered an "eyesore."

Upon entering, I was taken aback from the extensive damage - the entire general seating area was just gone. No roof, no floors. The area which used to be the basement was becoming overgrown with weeds and even some sapling trees, reaching towards the open blue sky above. Some scant remains of a stage were still present, but most well preserved were the front entrance, mezzanine, and projection booth; it just took a bit of climbing to get there!
