Discoveries

We drank copious amounts of coffee and Red Bull in the long, dark drive up to this old asylum, fighting the urge to pass out in the car. Many of the hospital buildings were still being used, which was the reason for our early morning excursion into the decaying, off-limits building on top the hill. The rural town was so devoid of people that simply driving around before dawn seemed to attract attention, so we quietly parked some distance away and hauled our gear past the active buildings and towards the dead building, avoiding the staff who worked the graveyard shift, and the police patrol.

The coffee had deleterious affects on our nervous system as the caffeine and adrenaline surged through our veins. Moonlit shapes flickered in our peripheral vision, and thinking it was a person, caused us to hit the ground or hide behind a tree once or twice during our approach. They turned out to be branches or whatnot, and I was surprised at how jumpy we were this morning. I breathed a sigh of relief as we crawled into a busted out doorway, hidden from the eyes of the staff behind the thick bars of the asylum, and began to become reacquainted with this old friend.
