The intercom on this desk reminds me of the speakers that they would hang on the inside of the car windows at the drive-in movie theaters in the 1960's in Orange County, California.
I know that there is really nothing to say about it.
I can remember watching a drive-in movie while my Dad was driving down a freeway in Orange County or Los Angeles County for all of 5 to 8 seconds.

Trust and believe signs are up and visible

I don't know if this site is even active anymore, I honestly just left The Ladd School. When I first moved back to RI I was in high school and did a project on this location, it's taken me years to actually visit it and to be honest. I'm not even sure what's still standing, it was so dark and I'm not going to lie, my body froze, my mind which I cant recall even thinking put my car into a complete uturn and I flew out of there. Just being on that land is something I cant describe, its sooo heavy, its beyond heavy. I can still fell it and I live in Cumberland, kind you I also visited Mercy Brown's gravesite right after which was nothing compared to The Ladd School. I do not know if I could go back, I want to, I need to know what's left. The graves of the children, have they been disturbed which I feel they have. I'm shocked more shows haven't visited this property, its extremely live and I'm not someone who summons spirits or speaks with the deceased, I just know what I felt. I know what I still feel and I know I will be on google all night....

I KNOW A LOT ABOUT THE LADD SCHOOL, WHEN I FIRST WENT TO WORK THERE IT WAS KNOW AS EXETER SCHOOL. I WORKED FOR MY FATHER WHO WAS THE HEAD FARMER FOR THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND. WE LIVED IN A SMALL COTTAGE AT THE SCHOOL. THE FARM PRODUCED ALL SORTS OF PRODUCE THAT FEED THE SCHOOL AS WELL AS OTHER STATE FACILITIES. FOR MOST LIFE WAS NOT ALL THAT BAD. I GRANT YOU IT DID NOT COME CLOSE TO BEING FREE. PATIENTS WEWE GIVEN JOBS AND SOME GOT TO GET OUT OF THERE AND MAKE A LIFE FOR THEMSELVES. I KNEW DR. LADD AND RESPECTERD HIM, IN FACT I DATED HIS DAUGHTER, BUT THAT DID NOT LAST FOR LONG AS MY FATHER WAS CAUSING TROUBLE FOR DR. LADD AND THE SCHOOL BECAUSE OF SOME BAD PEOPLE THAT WORKED THERE AND TOOK ADVANTAGE OF SOME PATIENTS. THERE WAS A BIG FIGHT AND THE LAW GOT INVOLVED, BUT NOTHING CAME OF IT. THIS STARTEDC WHEN AN ATTENDENT PUT A YOUNG BOY IN A SHOWER BAG AND HUNG HIM IN THE SHOWER WHERE HE DIED. I REMEMBER THIS BECAUSE IT BECAME MY JOB BERRY YHE BODY. I HAD 2 PATIENTS DIG THE HOLE AND WE PLACED THE SMALL COFFIN IN AND COVERED IT, NO WORDS WERE SAID AND I DO NOT REMEMBER A GRAVE MARKER. IT HAS BEEN ALMOST 70 YEARS SIENCE I WEAS LAST THERE. WAS PLANNING TO VISIT THE PLACE THIS YEAR SO LOOKED IT UP ON LINE AND THAT'S WHEN I CAME ACROSS THIS ARTICLE, FELT STRONGLY I HAD TO ADD MY 2 CENTS. GOD BLESS AND FORGIVE.

There was a building exactly like this one west of Denver, it was razed 10+ years ago. Has to be the same architect. It was on the corner of a very busy intersection and surrounded by a parking lot. While it sat empty for several years I was never able to get inside.

As someone in the medical community (at a quite high level), I can think of few rarer atrocities that were performed there. I equate Dr Ladd as an equivalent of Josef Mengele. I understand that medical expertise was not very sophisticated when he started (well, yes but then they were many far more competent)... and I think the government just turned another eye, and doled money. I consider this a disgrace to any of us in the medical field... been on the inside under-cover there recently, and the only reason I say nothing is because this mimics most of the remainder of Rhode Island... (Except Newport,,, and don't ask me why). If someone you know did well there, then my best wishes to you. I applaud you. But in my experience (as I silently observe the other facilities around the country, as a 'patient', you deserve a '0' out of '10'.

What The Ignoranti Don't Think About is When They Go in There Half/Full Inebriated & Go Into/Get Pushed into A Room Or Sealed Drawer & Theres A Hidden Lock Or Rolling Or Shutting Assembling That Gets Jammed, & They Are Stuck & Sealed In, In An Oxygen Depleting Enclosure... when i was three years old i went to the ladd school and was put in an observation room (it was 1985) they asked me what i saw and i said, "a black lady." (i could see ghosts and i can still hear them.) As soon as the words were out of my mouth all the doctors at the table observing me stood up and a nurse ran into the room and scratched my arms until they were bloody. They told my older brother that i did it to myself and kept me there and gave me electroshock for 23 days straight. When my brother found me, i was strapped on a gurney in four point restraints with them giving me injection in my thighs, now mind you i was three years old. They definietly tortured people worse than me though but they were also obviously scared of a little three year old telling somebody about someone they had killed.

Yup, the Ladd School property is privately owned (I assume by the state of RI), and it's possible to get in trouble by walking on the grounds or in the buildings.
