I guess it's some sort of restricted access vending machine. Like dry snacks that the patients (the good ones) could purchase. But the access to the machine had to be restricted at times for obvious reasons. Picture nurse Diesel coming out from behind the desk with the "snack machine key" etc.

No danger of falling through. That wood floor is likely floated over reinforced concrete. It would be hard to build something more stable than this.

The side holes do look like potential sconce locations. The center item looks like a thermostat.
Amazing stuff. Where did you get the idea to go inside mental hospitals? As a former inpatient, the work really speaks to me. Dynamic, I love the contrast.

My aunt was a patient at this facility in 1947. I have a letter from my grandmother to my aunt, and someone wrote in pencil ADLER 2 on the front of the envelope. Was there a particular ward/section named ADLER? What do you know about it? Was it reserved for particular mental illnesses?

Check out dan bell or exploring with josh on YouTube nowadays its cool to watch video of some of these places. I noticed alot of these pictures were taken almost 10 yrs. ago kinda takes u out of the feel of it atleast it does for me. Much better if u photographed a place than uploaded pics days later thats kinda why i feel its much nicer to enjoy youtube videos of these sites. This seems outdated. Your photos are amazing though

Only the future will tell, but I see beige pre-fab condos being constructed on those prairies already, which is quite disappointing.

There was a morgue at this hospital, but the cops chased us out before we got to it. The stainless panels on the door are probably to protect it when being slammed open by gurneys or laundry carts.
