Chivalry

Downtown Detroit is one of the few places left where one can experience a classic film noir moment - a gloomy alleyway at night shimmering in a veil of steam, while crumbling Deco and Gothic buildings looked down from above with darkened windows. We crept into this beautiful scenery early in the morning, returning to Grand Circus Park after gazing at the Metropolitan Building's beautiful crown from the nearby Wurlitzer. Once again the thousands of rats squeaked and scrambled into their hiding places as we intruded into their territory during the darkened pre-dawn hours of their reign.

Like a shroud of steel, much of the Metropolitan's facade was covered in old scaffolding, obscuring the details of the old building. We made a beeline for the roof, and were finally able to see the black and white terra cotta masterpiece up close...
