Not until you do the math...2017-1982 = 35 years! When you see it like this you think holy cow, 35 years ago!
I went to a "Pain Management" office for years so after all that time they had quite a bit of paperwork on me. When I was told the office was going to close, I asked for my file(s). They REFUSED and said they were "going into storage". So I had a big battle with these people, if they were closing, then why did they need to keep my files? I was still alive and asking for them, but they would not turn them over. Why?!? What ended up happening, because I made such a stink about it, was that they made a COPY of everything (supposedly) that was in my file, but I had to pay for it. Cost me a couple hundred dollars for a copy of my stuff, but they still had the originals off to storage. I often wonder what ever happened to my records because I had heard that a while later the office reopened. Very strange.
There is a website that lets you "explore" Overbrook. It is http://www.whiteenamel.com and the pics used are newer than Motts' pics so there is a mild amount of decay shown. Great aerial shot at the beginning and good exterior shots. It's a point and click game and you can use your tab key if you can't find where to click. You'll need to refresh the page at the end of each segment. The backstory: The website was created as ephemera for "The Blair Witch Project" and features footage from a fake 60's documentary about Maryland asylums, Overbrook was staged as the "Maryland State Institute for the Criminally Insane", home of fictional Kyle Brody. (not the character from "Charmed" btw) He was the lone survivor of 8 kidnapped children who were ritualistically murderd by Rustin Parr, believed to have been possessed by the Blair Witch. This led to Kyle being very troubled as an adult, leading to his admission to "MSICI" More on that here: http://www.bluedaniel....archived/rustinparr/

But thanks for the pics anyway Motts I've been curious about this place ever since a paranormal team featured it in one of their episodes.

Allegedly, around a hundred people perished of hypothermia in Overbrook's first decade due to a failed boiler not powering any radiators. But i haven't verified that. _Robert B.
There is a guy who claims he lived here and told the story of it. It might just be a scary story, but the character of the first-person tale says it's all true. Read it for yourself: http://www.creepypasta.com/new-city-village/
Brilliant photos, shame the building has been allowed to fall into such a state. I worked there as a nurse in the seventies.

This is a beautiful shot. All of your work is wonderful, but I really love this photo.
1982 - not that long ago.
Why do they even keep this paperwork? I imagine the patients are dead and those that are not - well having paperwork around is a breach of confidentiality. Do these people have hoarding tentancies LOL?
Fabulous door.
I agree with Jen.
Oh boy, a new gallery. Thanks Mr. Motts!!!
My dad used to bring me here in the 90s and I really enjoyed this place, now i can hardly believe I used to jump in this pool one night while everyone was away I had this pool all to myself now goodness me did I really jump into this, I wouldn't be surprised if the floating boards had been floating in the pool since my last visit.
