The date of the construction of these homes seems to be largely unknown, however they were originally built for workers of the Newark Water and Reservoir Plant; I'm sure if you dug into the history there you could get to an approximate year.

How old were these houses?

I am from the area and have been back there several times. There was no cult, this was Newark Watershed property which houses workers for local reservoirs. The land was found to contain Radon and the "village" was abandoned as it would have cost a fortune to remove the harmful Radon. The land is now vacant as kids use to go back there and party and because of the "cult" stories that have been mentioned. There was never a cult or any killings there.

[Audible] GASP! It's Mothman!
There is a guy who claims he lived here and told the story of it. It might just be a scary story, but the character of the first-person tale says it's all true. Read it for yourself: http://www.creepypasta.com/new-city-village/

Motts, I truly love your black and white work. Very nightmarish.
Now I lay me down to sleep. I do not have nightmares. I Do Not Have Nightmares. I DO NOT HAVE NIGHTMARES!!! What was I thinking looking at pictures of Demon's Alley at 3:00 in the morning?
The painters didn't think it might look more realistic if the "shades" were different lengths? Or they thought people would think the whole village had OCD.
