I would LOVE to see that Genesis! That's the one thing I always wonder when I'm browsing the galleries here..what these places looked like when they were new and in operation!

Hi, I went to Royal Lands last year and none of the rides are still there. it's a troop through the overgrown woods to make it to the actual grounds. Not much was left other than an old grandstand, an old night club, the drive-in movie theater screen, the bathrooms, and a few booths. The place is completely trashed but still beautiful in its own ways.

Love the website. It"s great from a photography stand point, and I love seeing all the buildings I wish I could visit myself.

It is certainly a lovely campus, atop that hill. I think the problem might be more closer to there finding a developer with the motivation and money to rehab the place, rather than an asbestos issue. Take a look at Western State Hospital just down the road - dozens of buildings, tunnels, and much much more asbestos than DeJarnette's two structures, and yet they're being renovated...

Thanks KatEyes. It's interesting to see how things left behind in these places can be interpreted in the context of their surroundings. Without knowing this was a quote from a comedian, I certainly wondered what the story was behind this!

I'd guess that the room number changed, and it was easier than painting over the old number...

the more think about it the more in awe.....
Tastes like chicken - honest!
Feather, I'm with you and I don't even study biology! I would love to have had that baby piggy in a jar, just for a conversation piece. Probably wouldn't keep it in the kitchen though!
Who the hell chose the colors for these rooms? Of course, it probably kept the kids awake, the school I went to was painted all in that horrible dull green color. Between that and the boring drivel coming out of the teacher it was all a kid could do to stay awake!
That's a "Jan Brady" bike if I ever saw one! Elaine Benes of Seinfeld fame found one just like this in an antique store!
