My father was the chief engineer at the power house from 1937 to 1941 I believe. He got tranferred to Willowbrrok state school in 1941 to run the powerhouse there. The army took it over due to the war and after the VA took it for two years and then it reverted back to the state.. I lived at willowbrook from '41 to '52 when i joined the service and left. My father tranferred from there to Hudson River State Hospital and retired from there.

I bike commute through this place every day.
I have investigated many of the buildings and though about how difficult it must have been to be a patient there.
Kids have really trashed the place over the years, but it's still a unique place and a very quiet, though provoking section of my commute.

Last summer I got a treat when Hollywood moved in for a few weeks with Bruce Willis as the star. The movie is bases on the schools original use as a WWII POW camp.
