I would not say that EVERY patient was tortured in every single institution, nor did every patient die in their confinement; Some were put into group homes or were able to be 'rehabiliated' or the like through some point in life.

Though abuse was prevalent in these places, many people who have worked in them ( and also many people on this site can attest as they were nurses or aides) that many truly DID care about those they were taking care of. Some tried to report abuse, many befriended and mothered patients under their supervision.

Most things have two sides, plenty of stories, good and bad. We must learn from BOTH.

I can't understand why much of the material in these abandoned hospitals wasn't salvaged when there was still some value to it. Seems so wasteful. I'm not just talking about these bottles, which were empty, but all of the furnishings, etc. Even the gorgeous tile in some of these abandoned hospitals could have been saved. I'd love to have some of it! (After it had been thoroughly cleaned, of course.)

Those stretchers are NATO pattern and are still manufactured to the same design. Make a nice bed when one is still out in the field, used them many a night.................just tried very hard not to think of what we were treating on them earlier!!

Place has been demolished for years. Even if it were still there you would NOT want to ever go alone, especially a place like this. You'd probably need more than a box cutter.
