It could be they covered the pillars with wood to make it look flat and octagonal. They did this in an old clothing store I worked in, they covered the original pillars when they did a "remodel" some years back. After the store closed and they were gutting it, they peeled off the wood and found the original thinner pillar. Now the place is a condo, yuck!!

I have a video from a while back when I was around 17 years old. A few friends and I snuck in with a video camera at around 3:00 in the morning. Spooky place!

i take care of an 83 yr old lady from long island whose mother died in this hospital in 1935 from tb. i'm thinking she might have had a few mental issues also. r.i.p. marie schultz heizelna (last name i'm sure not spelled correctly. ms. dottie is always so concerned about the treatment of her mom while there. she died when dottie was 5 and she doesn't remember much about her mom except sitting on the bed with her mom and cat when they came to get her.

So maybe this is more of a dumb question..but in situations like abandoned cemeteries ..are family members notified before the place is abandoned...i mean clearly people just cant show up at these places to pay their respects...i know dumb question but just curious..for some of the places that have not been abandoned for too long
