just though i will share some hints for future explorer as i very recently visited myself:
- the site is still accessible , fairly easy. There is only on point of access, so if you see a hole.... that's it
- the owner can't repair that entrance easily as a hole in the whole, it will require more work and that is why it's probably going to be left open
- no need power tool or any bolt cutter
- I'm expecting this site to be available only for a few more month, perhaps 6, before they start working on it and securing it completely as it has been purchased by an IT company
- there is someone living in there, perhaps not in the winter time, but we found a "camp site" inside, either squatter or junkies
- the hardest part of the exploration is accessing the main hall, where the front entrance door leads to from outisde ( not the point of entry ), they like to block the only metal door ( which gives access to the only staircase ) with big blocks of wood .
Overall the site is extremely interesting, well worth it
This area is rough. If you explore it be careful. Ghetto!
I walked pass this prison for first grade At goode school. Inmates would yell stuff to us kids from the windows. I remember them having blankets tied to the out side of the bars. Never actually got inside the old prison but after it closed the guard shacks were awesome forts for some of the local kids. Would love to tour it.
I think they were either airing them out or maybe it was the bed bugs?
A close relative was once warden at this facility. It's a shame it has been let go and probably ready to be demolished. I toured once when it was still in use and it was very scary. Made me think a lot of how it was many, many years ago. Thank you.
I think my dad knew that guy, lol. He also was in that prison when it was still running. I remember sneaking in there when I was a kid. Me and my brothers lived right down the street. I just remember It was creepy looking, and hearing some voice saying mine and my brothers names! We ran out ASAP, LOL!
Motts, I really like the perspective of your last photo, the different colors in it, and, especially, the 'cross' on the roof! Actually, I think that it's a flag pole on the roof. : ) I've seen flag pôles just like that on the roofs of other institutional type buildings....At any rate, I really enjoyed this gallery!
