Was the elevator still hanging in there? I belive they use to take them away... In my hometown someone accutlly bought an old elevator from a builing that was torn down... He installed it at home... Wierd

What are those four knobs on the sides for? Is it just where the railing on the outside is fastened or did they have any other purpose?

Wierd... Why would they paint the borads like that? If you abandone a place, why spend time on painting the boards on the windows?
