True Joe! They claim Hellnigly hospital has no use any more, by building new houses would increase the wealth of the town. No chance this building I think is the only wealth in the town, it is part of our history.
It would be more beneficial if it they restored some of it, allowing it to be safe for people to explore the site (as an exhibition) it would be ideal! Anyway that is my opinion!

Yes the chimneys are very unique! I wonder why they were designed like this? The fireplaces seem abnormally small, for some of the rooms are considerably large. I never could find a reason, any ideas?

I agree it definitely looks like Construction consultants work, to look at the foundations of the building! An individual could have found this and used it for other purposes, who knows! Good find by the way!

I read an article and in the middle the author stated ‘’Hellingly was some kind of hell, which is all suggested in the name.’’ I am intrigued to find out if Hellingly actually has any meaning, any ideas?

I think coal would be used in the fireplace. That is what the Hellingly railway station was built for to transport coal to the hospital and as well for travellers, visitors etc

Like I said previously I think that ''door'' maybe a window. It seems as though it may be a punishment room of some kind preventing the patient to have any social means by blocking their view or maybe a space where experiments may have took place? Would make anyone go mad!

It is true about ''minor indiscressions'' some of the ''patients'' or should I state ''guinea pigs'' were as normal as can be until they came out. It would many anyone go mad!

On another note would anyone hold any documentation of Hellingly? On the architect G.T.Hine or staff, patients and even visitors? I am writing my architecture dissertation and would be very useful also to hear any stories or myths of the place as the only real documents lie within a memory and most of the people there probably are not alive!

I would hate to see any friend or relative of mine in this situation and in the future would like to build something that would want to make the patient live a good life, to be inspired in their surroundings, enabling them to have the option to be slightly free! Though this build I think is beautiful not many patients or staff would agree.
