It is sad to see my childhood overgrown. I was born & raised in Oakdale,CT. I went to Rocky Point every summer until I moved away. I moved to Warwick,RI in 1999. I was stunned to find out the demise of the park. It was like somebody tore away a chunk of your youth never to get it back. It is again so sad to see the once mighty go down like that. If I had the $$,I would bring it back. it is/was a New England institution. I can still taste the chowder & clam cakes.

It makes me so sad to see the place like that. I spent so much time there as a kid. It was our #1 summer attraction. As a kid I could bearly get to sleep the night before knowing we were going there. I loved it and miss it. It truly saddens me, especially seeing the "Rocky Point" sign.
Love your pictures, I will check out your others.

I went to Rocky Point a long time ago and if I remember correctly this carousel was off on its own and abandoned, there were picninc tables nearby. I could be wrong and thinking of somelace else but this looks so familiar.

Yes, I remember the white wooden roller coaster at Lincoln Park. Did have great turns but scary as hell.. the wood was creaky.

Correction to Patricks post. The Enterprise did not have a steering wheel. The ride with the steering wheel was called the SkyDiver. It is true that the Enterprise was in front of the Arcade.

The dance company put on shows primarily on the Showtime stage located in front of the park management office. The dance shows and magicians act did their prepping/practice in the old Cliff House lounge. A closed down bar/night club located in a separate section of the park management office. No windows. Rumors of hauntings blah blah blah. A number of people I knew did not like going in there.

Oh wow. My childhood amusement park.
I remember when my dad, brother and I went there to find it closed. 1996 it was. So it been ten years since I seen this place.

I remember I got freaked out on one of those rides. It spins as a whole but the seats also spins.

Well, thank you for these pictures. Means alot.
Pretty sad it going to be turned into condos.

Hi all, Remember the little DJ booth? they used to have a D J from 92 pro fm doing his show from there! Brings back many good memories. Its a shame whats happening in this world. no more famillies doing this kind of stuff together anymore. Whalom park in Lunenburg, mass. another trolleystop park gone forever

To put in my two cents worth about the skyliner tragedy - I recall my grandfather telling that story when I was a kid in the late 60's/early 70's.

I have great memories of my own rides on the carousel and, then, the thrill of standing next to my own child for his first "horsie" ride.

I have such fond memories of riding the Sky Liner with my grandfather - that and the ferris wheel were "our" rides together every time we went!

<sigh> How I still miss Rocky Point!! Such a shame to build more useless, overprice condos!

the pentacle (point upwards) has nothing to do with satanism. it represents the five elements - earth, air, fire, water and spirit. in wicca, only the quarters are invoked (spirit is sort of taken as read). you won't find pentagrams in wicca or paganism - satan is a christian conceit and, for pagans, is as far removed from the belief system as god.

happy solstice, btw.

and some more history on tghe pentagram.... When the five-pointed star is pointing upwards, it symbolizes god over the earth. It is interesting how this would be shown with a satanic cult sacrifice of some sort, as you could say it is a paradox. Traditionally, devil worshippers see the upside-down pentagram as Satan over earth.

Lynn, any thoughts on the subject? it would also be nice for some backup, here!

god it feels great to be back.... lol
