Even more depressing than seeing the park empty is the plan to turn it into Luxury condos. It was and is such a part of the history of the city and the region. The sale of the property to the proposed developer is not yet closed - it is contingent upon the city granting approvals for the plan. I'm trying to gather some support for one last effort to pursuade the city to stop the condos from happening. I think many people in this state would love to see a small park, restaurant(s), a new palladium, even a small hotel and camping area there. There's room for a boardwalk, and tying the pier into our public transit's ferry system. There are 122 acres of land on that site, more than enough room for all of that and then some. If anyone's interested in getting involved in this, please email me at mhamel@richat.com
Too bad the po-po had to chase you down. I know it's their job and blah blah blah. At least you got a lot of really great pics, though. Thanks for the memories!!
The best part about this sign is that you can get "caps!" "sweatshirts!" "T-Shirts!" and "Cigarettes!"

So random.
This haunted house scared me to death as a child. I remember riding it with my father and getting mad that he was laughing and enjoying it because I thought the characters inside would get mad and try and kill us.
*sigh* They never should have abandoned this park.
So sad that this park closed. These picture broght back lots of great memories of haunted houses and Clam Cakes.

Rhode Island has very harsh weather conditions. If buildings go un-maintained this happens. The House Of Horrors structure facade was gunnite cement formed over chicken wire. Over years of neglect the extremes of the weather there took over. If the building was solid concrete it would still be standing proud. Afterall, the House of Horrors was the last ride standing fully intact til it fell.

This was also a Bill Tracy design, this is a real loss... Sad indeed...
The TROLLY STOP Amusement Parks were the best. They were the first ever built. We were lucky living in New England as this region had more of these parks than any other place. Rhode Island alone had atleast five great old parks. Rocky Point was the first to opwn back in 1847 and then the last to go on the auction block.

Coney Island in N.Y. was a Trolly Stop Park, Thank God most of it is still there and in operation...

That sign that says "Rocky" fell down and you can get the bulbs out of it. Plus..see the grass in the cracks, it's like waist high.
