My Grandmother worked there for almost 30 years and my mother started working there after she turned 17. My grandmother quit when it go so bad that the "patients" were having sex and she was not alloweed to stop it. She brought home 2 children every chirstmas and on holidays because they really were not "retarded" in the general sence......they just couldnt read and write and their IQ was about 69. They got worse from being in that place.
I remember visiting this place for a High School Health class field trip. It was just as bad as people say. Granted the paint is bad and neglect of the buildings now, but it was pretty much maintained . The buildings were maintained (Not clean) and the lawn and shrubs were trimmed. I will never forget when we pulled up in the school bus. It was like in the movies. No supervision and clients jumping out of trees and just doing what they wanted. We as a class had to stay close together (Stated by the tour person) The halls and rooms were disgusting. (Smells, urine and the such). I was surprised that most of the clients did not realize we were there to look at them. Some asked me if I had certain things in "My Ward". I really felt bad for them. The only reason I could figure out why the school district would want us to field trip this place was to make us feel good that we were not like them. It was just a crime that these people were treated like this.
we still drill at pennhurst. my unit is based there. we still drive the humvees around and 113's most of us are in iraq so that could be why you dont see much of it anymore but soon enough well be home. weve been privaleged with being able to meander the halls and tunnels and its the creapiest thing you would ever want to see. you can feel the horror suffered as you walk thru. if you do get in be safe and dont get caught being dumb...Spc dotterer
I was in there just before the raid in 68. Fear was trying to kill me using his electroshock machine for hiding evidence of another kid he had mudered and creamated alive. Fear was completely emotionless, and confident about being able to get away with it. His goons relished the torture techniques and laughed as he fried me. If it were not for my rescuers, I would have been thrown into the furnace too.
I saw the boy sitting back on the balcony about 4 secs. after i looked at the picture. unless that was painted there, there is definitely a boy or male sitting almost with his head in his hands or reading to the top left on the balcony.
I serviced the computer in the pharmacy in the early to mid 80's and don't remember seeing this. Med's were usually delivered to patients room from what I can remember!
This place is a very interesting place. I have gone to it with friend and we read/watched everything we could find and it is sad how one kid they interviewed in 1968 said the only person in the world he wants to visit him is god. The history of pennhurst is amazing, sad, and interesting. All the people that make fun of what happen and destroy the buildings are ignorant as all hell!!!
i just want to know if i can get in there and i wanna know where to park this place is so bad ass i live close and i wanna check it out if anyone is interested in coming greenlighter01@aim.com let me know
I have tourrettes, add, and ocd...*gulp* do you think i would have been sent there if i was born in that time? (another thing, i'm a borderline genius, so thats another reason why they shouldn't send them there) but my grammar skills are lazy and stuff....so bcuz i have speech issues, would i have gotten raped by a staff member or would i have been sent there? O.O o.o O.o o.O thats scary, i would have eventually gone crazy! (lol there goes your future BEST astrophysicist) :P hey i have goals and dreams too! anyways, i'm pist now... >:( :U that's just sick...
