In my opinion "phantom" commenting on this page is only trying to get a rise out of everyone, which he has accomplished. Obviously the person we are dealing with is not the real phantom because it seems the real one has far more respect for the property and its history. If this kid who claims to be "phantom" get his jollies from stealing a glass jar then he/she has bigger issues than just learning respect and dignity, sad but true...
Read a couple of these posts, would like to clarify a couple things.
-Sports equipment and training gear was used by the residents who were the most hadicapped. Fear's crew wanted no chance of some resident being stronger than them. If a patients with good cognitive skills were kept drugged. Goons made the most use of the equipment and rest was for show.
-Fear braggeg about his electro-shock machine design, he claimed it was his design. It was based on an electric chair for executions. The room it was kept in was specially wired for the extra amperage. The room with the heavy guage wiring was a torture room.(and ummm......electric chairs are wooden, it is the metal straps that conduct the electricity) . I was electrocuted on a bed, but I would not rule out the use of a chair.
-Most of the regular staff I met at the time were nice caring people, but Dr. Fear did live up to his name, and kept people in fear so they would not talk.
-An amazing number of residents were very normal and forced to medicate to make the appearance of being mentally handicap.
- Alot of the handicapped people I met were very nice, but understandably confused about what they were seeing and hearing
I wasn't saying that none of that stuff happened at Pennhurst because I do know for a fact that all of the horrible stuff happened there. I'm simply saying that today, that stuff no longer happens. A lot has changed in the past 10 years especially. You aren't even allowed to brush a patient's hair w/o a doctor's written consent more or less.
Hey everyone... I saw this place on TV twice last night: once on Channel 27 at 10:41 PM, and again on Channel 6 at 11PM. The haunted house officially opened last night. Admission is $25. I wanted to go, but my family were all to scared to go with me. (I thought it was pretty cool.)(They were freaked out by the clips that were shown on TV last night. They didn't want to go to the one at Eastern State, also. Eastern State's closer to my house than Pennhurst. Eastern State's about 17 minutes from my house and Pennhurst is about 43 minutes from my house). Also, Eastern State has free admission. If anyone can take some pics of the haunted house, that'll be cool. Both are open on weekends until Halloween.
