I saw one of these when I was about 10 years old, it was in operation, & it shocked me. Here I am 47 years later, been through a war and a quarter-centruy student of the martial arts, & I still get shock waves up & down my spine. I believe they weigh about 600 pounds--I understand there are around 50 people still using iron lungs (the more portable ventilator has replaced them) and I read about a year ago that they do not make replacement parts for them anymore. I used to complain that I am not in the shape I used to be and the racquetball game is getting slower...I just stopped complaining! Case closed! BTW your photography not only captures an image, but also the emotion. Kudos.
like I aid in a past blog My grandmother was here. She wasn't crazy until she left here. Back in the day they used to do this to people when they didn't understand what they where doing through.now a days they give them an antideptessent. How the world has changed
My grandmother spent quite a few years here. It is very wierd to think of this place for what it is now. You all talk about architecture, how about the reality of what this building was? I am an artists and have done quite a few builing drawings I respect that ,trust me. I can just remember the pain that I know my family member went through before the days they could truly diagnose a patient for what they where.
i was there tonite wit my girl and another couple , the shit looked mad Ill but onme of the girls was too scared to try and go in , but we did hear this crazy windy sound and , we werent sure where it was coming from !!!!
Then you might want to think about a nice anticholinergic agent to help you with that. And after you loosen up a little, go down to the streets and rivers where many of the people are who have been "freed" from the mental hospitals and help pass out blankets and sandwiches, wouldja? Talk is cheap and whining is cheaper.
