I think those are pumps in the foreground, possibly for a sewage lift station. The red valve handle is either for a fire sprinkler system, or controls the flow to the sewage lift station.
When I was about... 15, I saw this picture in a video about abandoned hospitals and this is the photo i saw all that time ago. I was very shocked to see this photo because I fell inlove with it and yeah
I live in manteno and my best friend lives in the area of the state hospital now there is only a couple buildings remaining must were destoryed and every time i go and visit my friend that lives in the area that i live also super close too,we go and walk and see the wards and every bath tub was destored and there is pools in the back area thats fenced off thats hard to get to but u can get there is u know the way but anyways there is old beds back there and toliets wheel chairs shoes books its creep cause if u want to get to the other side u have to walk arcoss a bridge that creep the crap out of u cause if fall in to the water there is no way of getting u out and who knows what is in that water that has been sitting there for years i wasnt born when the hospital was open still but my grandma worked there as a nurse and she said she hated that place to no end she said that she was threated everyday and she was attacked often back then most of the pateints were crazy and the often gave them to much medciene .........

I was in these building s about 9 years ago, and they did' not look too bad some paint and minor maintence go's a long way, a care taker would have been a good idea, there are so many people that need housing and all these buildings just sitting there, rotting ! what a waste,..
