Slab tubs were common for institutions for the mentally retarded. I don't think it was a hydrotherapy room-that sort of treatment went out in the 1950s.

The nurses had less lifting to do when bathing "crippled" patients.

Look at http://vimeo.com/365508 to see what this place probably looked like in the 1950s. You can see a nurse giving a young boy a bath in a tub like this.

I worked with equipment like this back in the early 1970s. It was reliable and performed well.

My mother was a doctor there. I grew up there.
She cared. She did the best she could.
My Mother and Father fell in love, and I was conceived there. 50 years later, they still love.
Love is all we have.

What an amazing building! You're right Max. I think H.P. Lovecraft would have been inspired by this place. I'm really surprised I've never seen it in a horror movie. It would have been perfect! Great site, by the way! :-)

I could see a patient sitting on the bed looking out the window, and in a breif moment watching them you would question why they're there and why you aren't.

In PA somewhere there is an underground road. I'm not just talking about a tunnel, it has houses and everything. It flooded in the 1800 and eveyone just left leaving eveything behind. the houses were moved around a little and are used for support for the road above it. Unfortanitly most "treasures" have been stolen. Its sad that people steal the only remnants of human life once being there to sell it for money.
