The gas lines would be the two nozzles to each side (actually one may be gas and one vacuum) and the water faucets are the tall curved ones in the middle. Yes, there is a narrow trough underneath the faucets to drain any water that comes out/leaks. The knobs controlling these would be on the outside of the hood along the bottom edge (where you sit/stand) or lined up along the side. Considering this was a chemistry lab, this is most likely a fume hood rather than a biological isolation cabinet (which would be similar but found in the microbiology lab).
Man, I'm praying things like this were saved before the building was bulldozed. I'd be balling like a baby if I learned this was buried in a landfill somewhere or ground up for gravel.
Thank you, Motts. Although I've never met you, I feel like I've come to know you through your work. I really appreciate your efforts and have really come to think of you as a friend and truly look forward to viewing your postings.
Great door. We replaced all the doors in our house with doors like this. For privacy in the bedrooms we handmade curtains to match the decor. When closed, it looks almost like big pictures lining the hall. Rooms that aren't bedrooms don't have curtains so, just like Mica mentioned - are bright and light. I've mentioned this before but it really does seem like they tried to think of everything when designing this building.
I would think plants in a solarium would be quite appropriate. OK, well, maybe not coming through the windows. I'll bet this was a very relaxing room when in use.
Sandy - I remodeled my kitchen to 1950's diner style with checker board black and white. Even put in a 1950s rotary wall phone. Once completed it looked cool but then everyone started giving me Coca-Cola memorabilia - towels, napkin holders, ice cream scoop...anything that could be found that said Coke. Needless to say, I no longer drink Coke, lol. Will now only find Dr. Pepper in my fridge. I'd love to see your kitchen when its completed!
Other than the peeling paint and floor, this pretty much has been standard layout for all of the hospitals in which I've had the pleasure to work. Many of them had door pulls just like this one.
