Great photo! I have always been fascinated with & had an unexplainable attraction to Eden Hall since my first time at Fluehr Park to play a softball game there in 1987.
Spent many relaxing summer afternoons in the peaceful environs of the park just walking the grounds or sun bathing on the soccer field.
For many years would bike up to the park on Sunday mornings from my South Philadelphia home. Entering from the back of Convent Ln. Quite a trek! Thank you for the photos.
I was in Barry Rogers' class. Many memories of walking through the lovely campus. Have my '61 graduation pictures showing me w our Principal, Mother McGowan in front of the main steps. After graduating, came back in 1964, portraying Richard Nixon in a mock debate in front of the girls in some auditorium. I went to Holy Ghost and was not used to being around that must estrogen.
we lined up in the study hall and walked in ranks to the chapel everyday for Mass . We sat in the pews in the middle and the nuns were in the individual kneelers around the sides and in the back . The priest would come over from St. Katherine's and say Mass. I graduated from Eden Hall in 1967 and had hoped to return for Alumnae days but did not get the chance to do so because the school closed in 1969.
I attended Eden Hall as a boarding student during my high school years and have fond memories of the beautiful building and grounds.. I graduated from Eden Hall in 1967 and the last class to graduate was the class of 1969. My grandmother, Anne McCloskey Henkels ,was an Eden Hall graduate and wrote to the Reverend Mother General of the Society of the Sacred Heart to implore that the school not be closed ,but to no avail. The sisters had decided to put all of their assets into Stuart Country Day School in Princeton so Eden Hall's fate was sealed. I am now 69 years old and I still remember those four years as some of the best of my life and the Sacred Heart education has proved invaluable to me throughout my life. I walked the grounds today and it broke my heart. if only the chapel had been preserved !

Shame on the Society of the Sacred Heart for allowing that magnificent property fall into disrepair then destroyed. I attended Eden Hall and it was a unique and special place. And the highlight of our day was morning mass at 6:30 when the neighborhood boys were serving ha ha.

The individual seats along the raised outside aisles were called stalls. The seats were hinged so that they could be raised or lowered to accommodate a seated or kneeling or standing position.
The arm rest would become a hand rest when the nuns were kneeling.
The people that set this place on fire should burn in Hell for all eternity.

I'd be upset too having to 'live' in and look at what the vandals did to my home and God's house.

Man, I'm praying things like this were saved before the building was bulldozed. I'd be balling like a baby if I learned this was buried in a landfill somewhere or ground up for gravel.

I just learned my grandparents may have been married in this church around 1905... It's such a shame the church couldn't have been preserved. It was a beautiful old piece of architecture. Thank you so much for the beautiful photo series.

Wow! How have I never seen these photos before? I attended St Katherine of Sienna grammar school for 8 years and then Eden Hall for 4. This chapel and the nuns who taught at Eden Hall played a major part in my spiritual growth.... in my LIFE! Thank you for the opportunity of wandering through happy memories as I view your photos.
I graduated from Eden Hall in 1966 and had the privilege of being in this beautiful chapel every day. When the contents were auctioned, my aunt bought two of the brass candlesticks that were on the altar and gave them to me. When I looked at your photos, I could see the chapel as it was. Thank you for these beautiful images.

I was raised in that area. My parents took me to Mass there from time to time. we had to be very very quiet and I always wore a veil. I could see where we would sit in the picture with the pews. It was very moving for me to see these pictures.
I attended St Katherine's on the Eden Hall grounds form 1950 to 1957. I have fond memories of the Chapel and the grounds. If I remember correctly the nuns were very self sufficient on the farm. They had plow horses , pigs ,ducks ,chickens, to name a few. They had orchards and vineyards. My Dad, being a plasterer, did some work in the kitchen one day and I remember the nuns baking their bread and cooking meals. When attending mass in the chapel you really felt the presence of God. The two guardian angels on both sides of the altar still leave an indelible mark on my psyche. You didn't dare goof off in fear they would rat you out to Mother Kramer - LOL Beautiful building, what a loss..
I graduated from Eden Hall in 1966 and cried when I saw these marvelous photographs! Thank you for the memories !
