Could I get in trouble if I tried to visit this place and take pictures? I'm from CT and I want to do a photo shoot in an abandoned place but all the abandoned places in CT are closed to the public. Great gallery by the way.

Slab tubs were common for institutions for the mentally retarded. I don't think it was a hydrotherapy room-that sort of treatment went out in the 1950s.

The nurses had less lifting to do when bathing "crippled" patients.

Look at http://vimeo.com/365508 to see what this place probably looked like in the 1950s. You can see a nurse giving a young boy a bath in a tub like this.
they probably ended up in group homes or if they're too out of control, they usually get sent to a place like the Judge Rotenburg Center

Upon listening to an audio document from the school's public outreach campaign "Remember Me", there's a segment where they mention a machine like this. The link;s here: http://www.theladdscho...school-museum-ri.asp

I had either an aunt or a great aunt who called this hell hole home, if she had the mental means to even know who she was. She had a triple lobotomy done here, can't find any record saying she was here except for family paperwork and letters about condition. I can't even imagine what it was like in there.....
Good photo. High back for someone to lean the head on top of a weak neck.
Safe chairs rocking away with their oxygen canisters behind! It is all so strange.
