495 Comments for Eden Hall Chapel

I want to cry. A comment above has it right- it is not just the building- which was magnificent- it is also all of the souls that entered there, were buried there, grew up there...
These pictures are very beautiful but heart-wrenching for anyone who went to school here as I did. I can remember the chapel- well the whole school- in detail. I was so happy when the move to restore the chapel was underfoot- these pictures show that even in this state it was an incredibly beautiful place and makes its loss all the more painful.
I am not sure why you chose to photograph it but am very grateful that you did. Your work is excellent. Thank you.

My grandparents lived near the park. I have a faint memory of my uncle bringing my cousins and I to the park when we were young. I remember being in awe of this beautiful chapel (it was abandoned) and I wanted to see inside so bad but of course my uncle wouldn't allow five kiddos to go exploring the crumbling chapel. Little did I know, this is what sparked my love for urban exploration. Recently, my mother and I visited the park to see if it was still there. It makes my heart ache that this beautiful church was demolished. Discovering this website and these pictures has been a blessing. Thank you so much for sharing.
Eden Hall was very near and dear to my heart! I grew up in the neighborhood and remember the individual fires. I would love to have pictures to remember the place by. Thank you for documenting the beauty of Eden Hall.

Went to school there as it closed in 1969. The chapel was unusually beautiful! So sad.
Thanks so much, Motts, for ''preserving'' a chapel that has been such an inspiration to so many,, and will continue to be, because of you! This Gallery has definitely been one of my favorites!
Oh, wow! Another pic that takes my breath away! Soon I'm gonna need oxygen, Motts! : )
I just love the way Motts uses light and shadow in his ''artwork''. It makes his photos all so interesting!
Sweet! This one took my breath away!
Stilll so beautiful! It had to have been absolutely gorgeous at one time!
Oh! You know they gotta be beautiful underneath that dust!
I graduated from Eden Hall in 1961. For five years (except Sunday's when we went to St. Katherine's) I was there every morning. My brother served as an altar boy at my graduation. If you would like to find out more about Eden Hall and the Sacred Heart order of Nuns you should read "Changing Habits" a book by one of the students who attended the school. I didn't appreciate the school until many years later. But the chapel was always magical. The kneelers were brutal on the knees!!!!

What a treasure the Chapel was! And how very sad it couldn't be saved. I was at Eden Hall for five years, and the beautiful Chapel was a place I would often love to visit. Many thanks for the pictures. Great memories!
