Can't seem to find anything on that, but the only park I can think of was Olympic Park in/near Newark....they had a riot there in '65 but the park closed soon after that. (I used to go there as a kid), so that might not be the one.
Once again, this is a great shot though, it really does look sad and lonely.
Damn, I grew up in New Jersey and I can't even remember the name of that park, lol ! You have me thinking though...maybe a Google search will bring it up....:-)
Great photos here though!
i remember the place as if it was just yesterday that was there. i spent my summers at my grandparents cottage on rocky point beach i remember as a child playing outside the cottage you could hear the people from the park screaming from the corkscrew or the music playing. i even remember you could drive around the park and see everything from your car. the clam cakes going on the flume. looking at this place now saddens me i had some of the best memories of this place
I grew up in Longmeadow-a few miles to the north of the park. Every night we could here the whip? making its slinging sound. My brothers worked there and I worked at the batting range owned by a friend of mine. When we were teens we went there in the winter and walked through Draculas castle in the pitch dark!
Hello everyone!
My son (same name) googled our name and this talk session came up! Yes, I did jump in and save that intoxicated fellow on th flume ride. And yes, a maintenance worker was chopped to pieces on the skyliner! I am currently a math teacher in Mansfield, MO.
My how times have changed. I am very impressed with John Black's knowledge of Rocky Point and Rhode Island. I lived there for 24 years. Please respond back! Thanks!
why couldnt someone with a lot of money reopen it? They could recreate it to original and by the way are the people who caused the mismanagement in jail? BECAUSE THEY SHOULD BE!!!!!!!
