I was just at Pennhurst today...sadly...this mosaic has been destroyed. Someone has chipped away at it. All that remains is bits of it, and this beautiful photographic reminder of the evidence that once remained. There is one still intact on an adjacent building that is absolutely gorgeous!

What about Abandoned Schools with Textbooks? What would be the harm in that? They may be old and out of date, but they can still be usefull!

for years it bothered me the nightmare that was pennhurst. over the past 12 years ive befriended many ex patients and employees of the facility. contrary to popular belief (some of the people who commented on here) the institution was a terrrible place to be. care was minimalistic if none existant....there were never enough nurses or aides to cover any of the wards..the food was terrible and nothing was ever done to help people at all...towards the end no one cared meds were left in the open for anyone to take orderlies were raping female patients the lists go on and on and now they are running a haunted attraction on the site gonna be awful hard to keep the real ghosts and the fake ghost seperate.... thats one place that should of been left to deteriorate into the land and left to its own demise.....nothing good ever came out of pennhurst
And besides, my family's too scared to go.
No, Mouse. It's too far from my house. (43 min drive)
mikey no cursing!
I saw this on TV on the haunted house's grand opening. They had a doll on there.
I wonder what they did to Dopey for the haunted house, maybe painted him with an evil face???

I want to go there and ghost hunt
This reminds me of a story about one of the Seven Dwarves, that was painted on the wall at Camarillo State Mental Hospital in Cali. Story goes that there was an evil presence in this room, and when it was pissed off, the painted of Grumpy on the wall would change and have a sinister look on its face. That freaks me out! All these happy Disney paintings just don't belong in this hell hole of a place, or any of these institutions for that matter!

Wow just....wow ok I feel I need to put my own word in,as a former patient of a mental facility. It is like any other work place you have-lazy asses, gossips, people who dont give a damn, people who reaally dont want to be there, and people who skip on their duties. However you also have-Kind caring people, people who enjoy and love their jobs, hard works, friendly people, people who do the best they can and try their hardest to make these places as close to a home as possible.

You really need to stop and think about this before pointing fingers. When you lump together the good and the bad you sully the name of those who were only trying to do their best. If it werent for some of these good people I myselfs would probly not be writing this. And as for the bad that was said to go on in Penhurst, everyone has their breaking points we are only human, and being under paid and staffed is never any help, people get overwhelmed it doesnt make it their fault.

What I find truly sad is when places ment to heal and help fall apart at the seams. Usually at no fault of their own.

Well these are just my thoughts take them as you will,I hope they give some of you pause and make you think.
