I am sorry for this comment, but how can americans be so ignorant and destroy a beautiful place like this, with so much history, here in my country we would not dare destroy something like this, it's part of history, yours is a strange country, you want a walmart or simple apartments instead of this building, I'm so angry right now and I am not even american, but I love all of you guys who can appreciate this beautiful place.

Brad and Sage: I don't believe in taking things out of buildings like this, as it's stealing. However, if I knew this building was going to be torn down next week, and they weren't allowing people to attempt to salvage first, yes I would probably take this too. It is too beautiful to allow it to be destroyed for no good reason. But as long as this building isn't in danger of being destroyed, you should leave it alone. It doesn't belong to you.

Then again, how do you go about stealing a fireplace anyway? Seems kinda big to be sneaking out with...

Maybe even taggers have some respect? It's a nice thought, but they probably just haven't found it yet... stupid taggers.

Yeah, but what song could possibly complement that room? Stairway to Heaven would be cool, but I think maybe something really metal and industrial?

Hey Motts, you should come here again before the shit actually hits the fan.

chrisFDNY,
I too have been captivated by that ferry... after some quick internet research I found interestingly enough that it is a late 1930' Staten Island ferry named "The Mary Murrar." Even more interesting is what sits next to her... read on: http://www.itsnewjerse...ship/marymurray.html

No, Luke, I'm a piece of crap to people like you. And I don't mind that one bit, considering the source. [beams happily]

"Who cares how you treat patients nowadays" <-- now that's a piece of work, y'all. 8`-)

Ok, so it's something we use to beat ~Me with? :D
Luke: you're an idiot. Life isn't in the past, it's in the future. Would you like us to hold you responsible for things your ancestors did?

I love this site (opacity) I come in here and browse the pictures for hours, theres a strange comfort in knowing there are others who see the beauty in a dilapidated modern ruin. Some days I think I must just be strange like that kid in the movie American Beauty who films the plastic bag in the breeze... :)

I thought my other post had too little content. Maybe you didn't see -- this building opened its doors in the early 19th century. It's now the 21st century. Things change over a century. Who cares how you treat patients nowadays -- these buildings are far older than you or modern humane treatment.
