That sounds right, the junior high i went to had a tunnel connecting two buildings just for that reason,( not for transporting patients of course ) from the outside you couldn't tell there was a tunnel, it looked like two seperate buildings seperated by a lawn.

It almost looks like the wall was cut open and is bleeding...
wow, great photo. i can't believe this place is going to get torn down! we used to go exploring this place back in '88, and it was one of the most amazing settings ever--there's a great and longer story about our adventures including being chased out of the asylum by a former (?) resident and then a discussion with a waiting police officer outside, someday i'll write it all down. Mott--thank you so much for documenting it...i have some old black and whites from back then, but somehow i always thought this place would be around, and i'm so glad you've got a library of great shots.
Love the picket fence.

RBVannacutt~ I think that Motts last photo on here titled "Overgrown", is what used to be known as Huck Finn's fishing shack in the EF. The EF did have a figure of Huck Finn fishing up on a rock and people could get fishing poles and fish in this water too. I'm not too sure though if the shack was near the lake here or another part of water in the EF.

I don't think the tunnels had water in them then. Over the course of time, they have begun to leak. As for the purpose of the tunnels, I believe it was a way to transport the patients from building to building without exposing them to the outside elements.

I was there today, four numbing shots. I do believe even my eyeball was numb for a while there. Now that the numbing is over where he shot me is sore as crap. Stupid dentist tried to talk to me while numbing me. I almost bit him.........seven or eight times today. :'( I feel sorry for dentists because of paitents like me, that glare at you when you get near them. But then again if i was the dentist i would laugh in the situation because of the ceartian people (jodi) that cry when getting numbed. Anyways i was there today, in that chair.

Does anyone know the purpose of the tunnels? Was it for the winter months so no one would have to go outside in the cold? Are all the tunnels underwater? I don't believe I have seen any pics of the tunnels.
