Mead & Taft were contractors and
general hardware dealers.they were
credited as architects for three projects
i know of:1870-"Glenfields" estate for
quarry owner Archibald
Gracie KIng[Old Manitou Rd, Philipsburg Manor]

1875-99? Le Douxx/Healy House
shingle style house,
Deer Hill Rd, Cornwall

1890's LARGE BARN,Kenridge Farm
Cornwall

they were the principal contractors for
JE Ware's firm's upstate work,
particularly Millbrook and the Mohonk
properties,from about 1889 through
1914, perhaps a bit longer, they may have also serviced his firm in his NYC work, i am not sure.
i would imagine that Cornwall's local
historical society would be a place to
find out more about them, sometimes
any info on this stuff can be scarce, but
i am often pleasantly surprised in my own
research. if you find out more, let me know!

"Uhhhhh..no thanks. I'll just stay and drink my coffee up here while I wait for all of you. Have fun!"
Holy Crap! Motts, please tell us that you do tell at least one person where you're going when you head out to take pictures.
The correct answer would be "Yes."

Usually there are two masks used for representing the arts. Happy and sad.
Any idea if there was a happy face on the other side of the cart?

Given that this was a power station, I would have to agree - who knows just what the heck happened here? ;-)

Looking at the baked enamel interior and the type of door hardware and door gasket I'd guess it was made in the 1950's. Albeit I'm a fridgy from Australia but back then there weren't that many hardware manufacturers. The shelves are still made that way in commercial fridges.

Fantastic photos by the way. I only wish I had access to such historic buildings here. The oldest buildings I've been through date back to the 1920's.

To Brian: If you want to know how to get to the sub basement then e-mail me at lxlstarxnoxstarlxl@yahoo.com. I'd tell you via comment but I think Sir Motts prefers us not to talk about getting into locations.

I would like to comment to someone that is "slightly" getting on my nerves. I have not heard ONE positive thing come out of Amother's mouth since she's posted. I know you are free to comment how you feel, but excuse me for saying this; you can be down-right nasty! Thank the Lord we are all gifted with different personalities because , heaven help us if everyone felt like you!
