The doors were left open/unlocked and in some cases the latch/bolt removed for the simple reason that all the keys would have disappeared shortly after the buildings became vacant. Lol
If memory serves me correctly, this is either a low security day room (note the absence of security mesh and exposed pipes) or a office area. The unit you see suspended from the ceiling is for heating and cooling.
One more thing...as someone who worked there, I do not personally find any of these images as unsettling as much as the memory's of the human beings screaming, crying and moaning on a daily basis for the years i worked there and....of corse all the wretched odors/smells. Strange how these things stick with you...
I was a assistant facilities engineer @ Marlboro back in the late 70's thru early 80's. I worked on all the mechanical systems for the entire facility and as such I was one of the very fe that had access to every single area, so I can tell you that I saw it ALL during my term of employment. In all fairness to the medical/psychiatric staff, most were very caring and professional individuals. In regards to the patients/residents...most were deeply disturbed and pretty much non-functional and some you wouldn't ever turn your back on because they would straight kill you! But suprisingly, there were many there who by today's standards were extremely normal and very good people Haha. To sum it up from my experience...Marlboro harkens back to a time when we as a society sequestered those individuals who posed a very real danger to themselves and others, where now they simply walk among us...
Not sure if they actually got rid of all the asbestos & radium 266 if they left plastic bags all over the place. Or are these to contain the blood splatters?
Nothing beats lawn darts for children's toys. Except maybe the old school lab sets, complete with radioactive goodness. Or, maybe the wood burning set. When will we see a tattoo set for Barbi?
