Naaah, it's a whatsamabobbin used in the '30s to connect to a bank of doohickeys that prevented oscillating back flow into the Cumezekyama so the whatchamacallit wouldn't pop the thingee into a overpressure. Simple science boys and girls!
These were designed to prevent the nasty eyebrow thing from happening!
(And they make a hell of a cup of coffee too!)

That hallway looks like it's one million years old. Flaking and malignant, it waits for the brave soul to tread it's path.

As a former local to this establishment, I used to walk around the grounds and inside the buildings when I got bored. I became apparent to me in my travels, that many of the pics i've come across on-line have been staged. When walking through these bulidings in person, there is much evidence of this. Good pix tho....

Wow! The use of color in this fresco is fantastic! You're right, Motts - that is an unusual style of art` for this type of building, but given the time period during which the hospital was built, a time when new genres of artwork were beginning to gain widespread popularity, it begins to make sense that one would find this style being integrated into more traditional settings.

What is the orange-y red thing at the end of the hall? My guess is a traffic cone.

I live a few miles from the place. Having moved here after it had closed, I had no idea of the nature of the institution. My god, I thought it was just a reform school. How I wish that were the case...
