That water tower does look high; perhaps it serviced the nearby town(s) and therefore required more pressure. The smaller one might have been solely for the hospital...

My mother Dorothy Savidge (Lawrenc) was a nurse there (Cental Islip and graduated in the class of 1939. She is 93 yrs old now and in hospice care.

She told the story of living in Pa. and her girlfriend saw an ad
to get nurse training. She said something about $39.00. Is that
what the ad said tuition would cost, or was that what the trainees
were paid.? The ad did not mention it was a "state" hospital. I would
like to be able to tell the story right! Thanks.

I agree, They most likely put those bars up to keep inmates from throwing other inmates off. That's how the Still Water prison is here in MN.

Motts, another great exploration, always love it when i get online and there's a new gallery up!. I hope for all of us Opacity fiends you never do, but if you ever retire (or even sooner would be better, make a series) you should def write a book, with all these amazing photographs, and the stories that go along with them. I would def buy that, in fact Id like to pre-order one now. Thanks again and I wait with much anticipation for the next one.

I love this one, I attended JobCorps in KY at an abandoned military base and had some good times (and got into some trouble) exploring the abandoned parts of the base. wish i still had the photos. Interesting this was aslo briefly a JCor center. they must like to use old military sites. thanks motts!
