Something that caught my eye was the missing EXIT sign over the arch. The sign couldn't have been worth much plus it would have taken a really tall ladder to retrieve it. I'm also curious about the fire hose on the floor.

Somewhere on the top (3rd?) floor of the main medical building. I would be surprised if they were still there.

I think it's ambient light, perhaps sunlight filtering in through foliage - thanks!

That door looks like it belongs on a barn.

I love the patterns of the peeling paint. Interesting that the paint changes color a couple of feet from the ceiling.

That tin ceiling is awesome. Interesting how the plaster has fallen away from the wall on the left.

I've been following this site for sometime, and am amazed at how Motts has done a wonderful job of posting photos of Halcyon. In case you're wondering, I visited Bennett many years ago when I was looking at colleges, ended up going elsewhere. What has happened to it in the intervening years is very sad, but things do happen. My own college folded also. Peoples' lives change, times and circumstances change, and nothing lasts forever, sad to say. But that's the way life is.

It's easy and understandable to be passionate about something, especially something beautiful and meaningful that has been an institution for so many years.

Pat, your book on Ware sounds interesting. I enjoy reading the others' opinion here.

Perhaps, this weekend especially, Irene might make a contribution to the fate of Halcyon.

Sadly, this is the reason fire departments will not initiate an interior attack when one of these buildings catch fire. Fill this space with black, blinding smoke and it becomes a death trap for firefighters. The best they can do is "surround and drown" to protect the surrounding exposures.

every single floor looked exactly the same, but we did end up going all the way up to the roof. it had a nice view, but you didn't miss much. i couldn't find the iron lungs in the newer buildings, and i was there for awhile. any hints? lol
