I tend to agree with Ozzman, I think of it as a room to keep the prisoners out of rather in. Like a storage room or the guard's break room. Scary looking non the less.
This looks like a cell that was used in one of the death camps in Poland that the nazi's used for prisoners. It was called a standing cell and they would put 2 or 3 prisoners at a time in them for days on end. I would have a big time claustrophobic attack if I was stuck in this cell!
Upon listening to an audio document from the school's public outreach campaign "Remember Me", there's a segment where they mention a machine like this. The link;s here: http://www.theladdscho...school-museum-ri.asp
I had either an aunt or a great aunt who called this hell hole home, if she had the mental means to even know who she was. She had a triple lobotomy done here, can't find any record saying she was here except for family paperwork and letters about condition. I can't even imagine what it was like in there.....
Hey again. I pass through this to work in the Inner Harbor. I think of this site when I see this stuff and that's crazy you've been here too. Westport is very depressing. You're brave! Nice gallery.
I grew up in West Islip but never knew about this one!! Been to the KPPC a few times. Friends have been arrested there. I also lived close to the half-open,half-closed Pilgrim State. Love your site.

My very first thought when I saw this photograph was
" Dark Shadows " from the 1960's television show Dark Shadows
and definitely not the 2012 movie Dark Shadows starring
Johnny Depp and Michelle Pfeiffer.
And now for the weird part:
After my very first thought I then scrolled down on the photograph and then I read the title of the photograph:
Shadow
I'd LOVE to hang that over my girlfriend's bed (she HATES clowns) and wake up to "Mr. Spooky"...but the laugh value would not be worth the resulting butt-kicking. Oh well!
