.......I forgot to ask.......do you ever feel the urge to 'speak' to those resting there?....it would be so tempting...........but, if you got an answer THEN would be the time to 'catch out'......
Ditto on that protective gear.......lots of lead based paints swab these places.
Thanks for the tour.....for many this is their last sight of society. And they have many tales to tell.
Just found your site. Best I have seen - Love your artistic touch.
In the 'View from the mezzanine' shot, the blue lit stairway contrasts beautifully with the green tones of the stage and wall. Did you stage that or was it natural lighting? Either way it's an incredible shot.
Keep up the great work.
I worked at Central Facility (Reformatory) and retired from DCDC. It is bitter sweet to see what is happening to it. Lorton was a hell of a prison to work, but I now know I enjoyed all of my career and the people I worked with. I have a lot of fond memories.
Personally I like the process of decay I think. But my true love is office and electronic equipment left behind. Give me an office that closed 50 years ago and I'm in heaven.
Unfortunately, vandals so destroyed this place and set several fires that all of the buildings have been demolished as of 2014. It's a shame many can't explore without destroying these places. I toured this one on many occasions, found the operating room, morgue, bowling alley, etc. I worked here typing medical reports in the 70's, there were entire families housed here.
Yeah that was a creepy old tunnel. I'm pretty sure the last few photos in this gallery are from the main building; I recall it being pretty empty and much less interesting than Jensen Hall, so I didn't take many.
I worked here in 1994/1995. This building was only used to store old stuff. The other building the tunnel led to was the main building, which you have no pictures of. I walked through the tunnel a couple times, but it was really freaky, so I avoided it. Lots of stories of weird ghostly things in the building you do have pictures of. Too bad you didn't venture into the former nursing home, it was much larger. It is a shame the entire complex was demolished. Vandals had smashed many windows and I am sure things got worse real fast.
This room was for teaching how to wash your hands. It was found that the actual presence of water was overly distracting for some of the inmates, so water was removed from the exercise.
