I went to Buff state, and worked for the Dorm Authority. We stored some of our excess and destroyed furniture over at the psych center so I have been in there. I used to ride my bike through the tunnels that went under the ad. towers. The place was spooky as hell, the pain from the residents had seeped into the walls. BTW a small bit of The Natural was filmed in there (hospital scene) while I was attending school. I personally do not think it is salvageable at any cost, almost 100 years of horrendous human suffering in one place.
Wow, gorgeous pictures. Do you do alot of investigation about a location before going onsite? I take pictures as a hobby as I've never been able to afford formal training but for a couple of classes but my question is do you accept pictures from amateurs & then go do further work? I'm just curious how you got into this work as I would love to do the same. The combination of history & art (photos) is a dream career &/or hobby. & one more question or rather comment, I would think people would want the history & look of these places preserved, I wonder why they are not more corporative, if not grateful. Just a thought.
When I was a teen and into film, I had a piece of nitrate film. Just because I was curious I set a match to it. It was only a little piece of film but that thing ignited and burned in seconds. Later I learned that once that catches fire, you can not put it out. It has to burn itself out. Pretty scary when you think of it and the many films they ran in those theaters that were nitrate film.
I think my dad knew that guy, lol. He also was in that prison when it was still running. I remember sneaking in there when I was a kid. Me and my brothers lived right down the street. I just remember It was creepy looking, and hearing some voice saying mine and my brothers names! We ran out ASAP, LOL!
This site is Awesome!! I always loved going through places like this year's ago, but it's a different world now. You make it possible for many to enjoy these spots without us falling through floors, getting attacked or arrested. You're going through the riggors and dangers getting these photos is Not Unappreciated, and I have turned many friends on to your site··· Thanks for all you do!!!!
Several posters asked about Father Richard McCormick, former Provincial of the Order. To answer your questions, you can have them all answered here: http://www.nwitimes.co...6e-c60cf19d223e.html ... and, yes, it's the same Fr. McCormick.
