Six Flags New Orleans is a fun place. Getting in is fun - you never know if an alligator is nesting in the tuft of weeds you're stepping into as you squish your way through the marshes. Exploring the place is fun - all kinds of props and characters are washed up into unexpected corners. Soaked through, weather worn, and disfigured, they still smile with eerily placid faces. Photographing it all is definitely enjoyable, of course, and climbing around on the rides like a kid in a huge, extremely dangerous jungle gym is very, very fun.

After my first visit in 2010, I returned for some night photography in 2012, and have included both in this set.

About

Opacity is dedicated to documenting various abandoned places through both text and photographs; recording their transformations through time before they are demolished. The abundance of abandoned asylums and psychiatric hospitals in the New England area create the bulk of the locations here; these beautiful state funded structures are vast and complex, giving insight to both the humanity and mistreatment towards the mentally ill over the past two centuries.
