wow, the perspective seems a little off, is that just the angle or is the room really askew?
Sit or Stand, THAT is the question!!
It always amazes me how paint peels away after time. The real money would be to come up with some paint formula that didn't peel, but then we wouldn't have these wonderful pictures!!
OHMYGOD-- A NEW GALLERY!! I'm so glad I come back here EVERY DAY!!! Mr. Motts, I must say I really enjoy reading the introductions to your galleries ALMOST as much as I enjoy viewing the photographs. You have a very descriptive and haunting way of writing, it really is a pleasure to come here and find a new gallery with some history. I so wish we could meet some day and go exploring. I am somewhat of an artist / photographer myself but, sir, I would be willing to be your "camera caddy" and personal assistant just to go along for the ride! Thank you. Ed (ps - I have a nice convertible if you did want to explore some upstate NY abondoned buildings sometime, I know LOTS)
The roof looks in pretty good shape -a little sprucing up, this would make a nice residence.
HA! First comment!! I must say that this is my favorite place to pass time and I come back often hoping for new galleries. Thank you Mr. Motts for satisfying my morbid sense of reality. And if I came across this piece of machinery, I would not have a clue as to what it was. My first guess would be some kind of record turntable on steroids.
Nothing a portable shredder couldn't cure. Not that long ago, people never would think about something such as identity theft, I think that's just a product recently thanks to the "information revolution". I know people (and I'm one of them myself) that would go "dumpster diving", not for personal records and the like but for other things. There was a time when people who worked in retail would mark a shipment "short", throw the item (camera, clothes, electronics etc) into the dumpster, then go retreive it later after the store closed. I used to find brand new merchandise in the dumpster all in the original boxes. As for patient records, I believe they should be stored for awhile then either given to the patients family or destroyed. I know I had a hell of a time getting my own records from a doctor's office, it was hell and they charged me like $200. If I'm a patient and I request my own records for whatever reason, I should be given them. They pertain to me after all, not someone else. Now everything is going "paperless" and on computer media, but there are a lot of businesses around that have peoples names, addresses and even credit card numbers available if you know where to look for that stuff. A company I worked for closed and all the computer equipment was just left and I often wondered if someone got in there and took that stuff they would find HUGE files with company info, personal info, credit card numbers the works. We need to be more responsible when disposing of stuff.
poor little dead pecker
In response to Mike's comments after reading mine above, I agree that things are just things and shouldn't carry such importance, what I was trying to say about the appraisals was, is this what life is all about? You live, work, accumulate stuff, then eventually die. If you left a ton of crap behind then someone else has to deal with it and either apparise and sell it or just trash it. I decided long ago that friends and relatives are what's important and the stuff comes second. I plan on getting rid of my crap while I am alive so no one else has to deal with it and hopefully who I've given things to will be reminded of me and how well I may have treated them whien I was alive. Of course leaving another kind of legacy behind like something that actually changed or bettered proples lives is the best thing to do. It's amazing how one of Mr. Motts photograps can induce such emotion.
And thanks to you, I've learned a heck of a lot about places like this, not to mention abondoned hospitals! Thank you Mr. Motts!
Any idea what it said below - -"alway start" - - with the arrow pointing up? I wonder how many fingers have pushed these buttons over the years.
it almost looks like a model where the walls are cardboard
OMG ~ it always hurts me when I see people abuse, neglect or throw out books. Possibly because I'm a bookworm and writer but still. . . couldn't these have been donated to some place. After all there is information in these books, granted it is probably dated, but still it's history and give a picture of the mind set of the time
They look more like gas outlets than water faucets.
Thank you Sir Motts for another emotional batch of photographs. I so admire your life and adventures.
