I was just there on 2/27/16
I'm some what speechless. The destruction created by both man and nature is captivating!
The floors and ceilings present quite a hazard. The structural integrity of the former church is all but gone. The area it's located in presents a hazard of it's own.
Not for the faint of heart!!!
This is a central location in the Netflix series "Sense 8" episode 1. I recognized it from a documentary series on abandoned places in the USA. Amazing ambiance. Great photos.
I am still a newbie to your site, but this picture is beautiful. The stained glass at the top is so pretty, wish I could have one. My Papa was a glassmaker and hung stained glass around here in Richmond. Va. when I was little.
I see this building everyday. It is far from being structural. But this use to be a steel town and most of the city is this way. Any thing that would be structural sound on restoring anything in this town would be a waist of time and effort. I have explored a few buildings they smell of homeless people. I believe you can see this place in the movie OG or Original Gangster. It is a shame just because it looks like it was a beautiful building at one time. But when the steel mills laid off people and people needed work they left.
NO, I am NOT a scrapper, and I resent being called one, and don't appreciate you insinuating that I am such a person. I am however, a collector of film and projection equipment and you will see many comments left by me under such photos. That doesn't mean I am going to break into these places and steal this stuff so if I were you I would think before leaving such stupid comments.
Now this is different! I've never seen stained-glass windows covered up with ANYTHING before, except to protect them from vandals. I'm a life long United Methodist, and I think I know how those ugly big blinds ended up on those beautiful windows! No doubt à crumudgen on the Board of Trustees thought it would be a good idea, and didn't be quiet about it at every meeting until it got approved! ; )
Thank you, Motts, for another great ''one of a kind'' Gallery!
As for Larry, you might be getting the clergy of the Methodist Church mixed up with the clergy of another Church that's been throughout the world much longer. But I don't know what your experiences, or those of the ones you love, have been. I just know that the Methodist Church has never had altar boys or girls.
Let me guess, eldokid...You are a scrapper. Grrrr! DON'T get me started!.....Another interesting pic, Motts! Not only would I not get on that balcony now, I wouldn't dare stand under it, either!
