I watched the video motts linked at the beginning. It sounded to me like "child labor" was an excuse to give contracts out and spend money. Looked to me like the farm wasn't being abused as that idea of "child labor" implies.

The idea that it is child labor aside from the age and the fact that it is work that has to be done on a schedule to a standard, I assume the exception is also in the profit taken by the state off of selling excess produce even if it is used for the school and possibly because they are saving the expense of buying that food.
I think that loses something of what people knew when farming was the only way we all et.
I expect some kids were worked harder than others and otherwise put in danger.

Looking at the columns support8ing that elevated section I wonder if those odd bumpouts on the columns in a previous picture weren't there because they just used a premade form to pour them or just how they capped the top of a pour.

Obviously they wanted to get at their report cards to chage some grades.

That desk/chair evokes the image of that stereo ad with the guy seated in front of a speaker and his hair and tie are flowing behind him as if the sounder were a wind.
Seems liek it is leaning forward to make it past the door.

I managed to contact the author of State Boys... and asked him if he would be interested in my story. Turns out he was contracted to do that book and he deosn't really just do books by just taking up someones story.
Seems shocking to me now that I was able to correspond with him directly.
