You are so lucky to get inside and take these photos. I worked in the new secure unit for two years and used to walk past these derelict beautiful looking buildings every day, always wanted to go inside and take some photos.
Now I often meet inpatients and the smaller units dotted around and some were patients in Whittingham for years, they speak fondly of the dances, plays and other events that would take place in the theatre/ball room.
Man I was in that room,I went with 5 other people and we went too both buildings. let me just say creepy diffently go with a group of people also we were there too long and got caught 24hrs community service that sucked
I was there last night and stumbled across a homeless person sleeping in this very same tunnel.-Pennhurst is probablly one of the creepiest places ive been
as an engineer who has worked in (and roamed through with wonderment) both new and old plants - power, steel fabrication, etc. - these pics are, simply put, me, and i deeply apreciate and enjoy your considerable talent. thank you for the OUT OF THIS WORLD artisanry. i've been showing your work to all my friends (more of them are artists than you might think).
Yes, much research was done at Letchworth regarding the causes of Mental Retardation - in the interest of learning how to reduce and prevent the number of future cases, as well as to understand more about those who were afflicted. One of the most famous scientists in the field, Dr. George Jervis, conducted his work there.
Letchworth Village WAS a state facility, operated under the auspices of the Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities. I worked there for 9 years and am still employed by OMRDD in a group home.
I live in the suburbs around Buffalo and I took some photos of this building...amazing. no other words to describe it. I think they should tape a"Scariest Places on Earth" episode in there..ha, shove a family in there and see what happens. I wanna go in there so bad....but anyways (now i am done rambling) great photos, i love the way it's lit up..spooky.
