Very nice photos. Sounds like a great adventure, kayaking in the Hudson in April to this place. It must have been beautiful in its day. I have a reproduction catalog of the company, that used to fuel daydreams of "what if I were born in the 1940's, what would I have bought for a few dollars?"

I grew up in Parkwood. That is about a half mile from old Byberry. I've been through that place many times with my friends from 1978 till bout 1984. We would explore the basement areas and there was always people down there in the dark. You couldn't really see them but when you bumped into or stepped on one it would scare the living shit out of you. They would try to grab you sometimes and we would all just run like hell. We did see dead animals back in there. I knew a man that lost his kid to that cult that stayed in there and he was never himself about all of it. I get it. Who would be. It was something to do on Saturdays or Sundays when we were bored.

Appears to be an early safety lock device, prevented anyone from accidently operating the starting air valves when the mechanics were making repairs. Once the mechanics were finished, the engineer would remove this lock block and restart this massive beast

The third floor in this pic was used for people caught with any kind of drugs in the sixties. By agreeing to go here for ninety days your record was expunged. This was in the days prior to any recognized drug treatment. No kind of therapy at all was given just playing cards and ping pong to pass the time.
