Not so scary when it was open for business.
Trail of a chupacabra. LOL
The door of death.

Quite the difference between this prison & Lorton Reformatory.
The windows on the north side looked out over the recreation yard and the inmates were able to roam freely between the cells and the floor to ceiling bars.

The colors & textures are spectacular.
The bunks were folded up when the cell was not occupied. It would be hard to fold up when your mattress and bedding were in place. Give the inmate more room? Ha!
The bars were cut and removed for use in the new Y.C.P. on Concord Rd.
My wife and I have two of thoso tubs in our house right now. One is vintage, the other is fiberglass purchased at Lowe's recently. The shot titled "Seeing Stars" brings back memories. The area just to the right of the cell door is where the bunks are located.

I live down the block from this place, did you know two children died in the lake that sits next to it? Creepy...

It feels like that is where they kept "the chair"... if they had one

I recall there was a yard enclosed by high fence. The fence was removed years after closer. I seem to remember seeing the fence for years after.

I remember driving by in the early 70's and seeing the inmates in the yard. (I was about 17) That building definitely made you want to never be in trouble. The new prison ... not so threatening. Prisons that look like this should come back to punish those who commit crimes against other people - and to help scare the young to go straight!.
