I have one of these wonderful machines, and we actually USE it. It sounds like a Sunbeam Mixmaster and gives off an aroma of burning dust, hot film and lubricating oil, which is instantly recognizable to any boomer as "projector smell". It brings me crashing back to junior high, with its coincident odors of pencil sharpener shavings and chalk dust. Simply wonderful.

This is a neat photo. There were (and probably still are) literally thousands of these dimmerboards, in various different configurations, installed in schools, churches, and theaters. They're darn near bulletproof. This photo revives lots of memories for me. Thanks for posting it!

Why wouldn't I admit that? I've always described my near misses and failed attempts.

I appreciate the info about the razed building, but your assumptions and digs are pretty obnoxious.

You people didn't even see the worst building of that place. It was across the street from the "Main" hospital. It was a four story "Federal" style house/building that they kept the worst mental & Aggressive "members" in.. It was burned down in a "Fire Department Training Exersize" many years ago. My thoughts about it ? The Town didn't want anyone knowing what horrors actually occured there. Burn it down, call it an "Exersixe" for the Fire Departmant........no way to find evidence of what happened there. Btw, that's the ONLY building that was burned down.

I live in Belchertown. I know the State School. You could have taken LOTS more pics than what you did. Most likely, the Police removed you from the property, and you don't want to admit that. Had you gone through the proper "Channels", you would have gotten many more pics.

Today I went to Belchertown State School to check it out... I have a big interest in abandoned mental hospitals such as this. I've only seen the outside of this one and Northampton, I'd love to go inside like you have...how do you get in and get away with it?? Another thing - this pic you have "pediment" .. I took the same picture on my phone, exact same angle and everything, when I came to this site and saw such a resemblence I got chills ^_^ Quite exciting.
all my anime fellows would love this!!!

why this is so pretty i wanna put it up near my anime posters

These types of seats are reminiscent to the ones in my local junior high school (built in the 1920s), only there, the wooden backs have old red velvet cushions added on and the metal supports are all black (like wrought iron).
