I think why they added it was because comics were very popular in the 80's. They would sometimes use the symbol in their comics, and make it into something else. Take Manga and Anime for example. They used the Star of David as a symbol of magic, which idk why. As in matter of fact, I'm actually open to all beliefs. I have to agree that they should of never made it look like that the Wiccan's are the bad ones! Who ever it was must of been a pure Christian, and must of really hated Wicca. For that matter, they should of never painted it, cause think about the children!
Looks like all, or almost all of the light bulbs are broken. Those signs used a whole bunch of low-wattage bulbs, about 7-10 watts per bulb, but when there are that many of them together you get a nice bright effect. The "movement" system was based on relay mechanisms inside the metal shell. When this type of sign is on you can actually hear the relays clicking inside to make the lights appear to move in the direction of the arrow. This sign appears to be from the late 30s-early 50s. It also appears to be restorable. The electronics would all have to be replaced with UL standards of today.
I was on the Flume deck when the rail broke due to overcrowding. I had been on a walk-a-thon that day that concluded at the park. It was a hot day and the place was absolutely packed, The rail ran along the perimeter of the deck, and the deck was overloaded with people leaning against the rail. People fell below onto the concrete canal abuttment. I was almost trampled to death when people tried exiting down the stairs. I was off my feet , being moved by the crowd. If not for the chain link fence i grabbed hold of, who knows.... they repositioned the rail later to split the deck and keep folks in single file.
This Picture is from the very end of the Ride, on the door at the end was a picture of a very vicious cobra snake baring its fangs ready to bite the riders, and then the car bumped open the doors and you were at the end. I truely miss these days, my father, loved this ride, he would always screech and yell inside and people thought it was actually part of the ride!!!
As a student I operated this ride! Jesus! It was such a long time ago! In 1990. Now I understand the park was closed 6 yrs later. I am so sorry about it. As Hungarian, from behind the iron curtain this job was and has been one of my "life memories" - and it now vanishes into ...eternity... Peter (szabopeter67@t-online.hu)
