This was actually just an enclosure for outings and pick nick tables... part of an old beer garden. that was at the time the park closed. it may have been for the carousel before they moved Kiddie Land to make room for the Corkscrew Roller Coaster

The man killed on the Skyliner was my uncle. His name was Eddie Walker and it was September 2nd 1970. My entire family worked there.
Well, not every place can survive :(
I visited rocky point recently!! All that remains is the control platform for the "skyliner" ride......the towers......and the arch which still stands at the southern most part of the park!! And the blue cement from the salt water pool is also visable!! It's sad to see such a void where so much once stood.....and for so long! We all have our memories!! I certainly have my share!! God Bless RP !!! 1849-1995

This was such a fun place in the 90's. I was only 10 when it closed but I remember every time I went there. They just demolished the dining hall this week, which is the last of everything. I was doing a google search on the park for memories and came across this page. Thank you for the pictures, too bad you couldn't see the place when it was up and running..

I know of 2 people who fell off the Skyliner ride due to operator error. There were supposed to be 2 people working the ride, one to hit the STOP button and one to help you into the seats. Only one person was working the ride at the time and they were pushed off the edge before they could be secured in the seat. 1 person suffered a broken ankle. After that the drop off at the loading area was altered to a ramp instead of a steep drop.
Thank you for sharing these photos!! Rocky Point is where it all began for my hubby and I, back when we were 13. I can still see the way the park USED to look in the photos you took. What an awesome trip down memory lane!!!
The state owns Rocky Point Park now. The amusement park area and adjacent Rocky Beach cottage community are fenced off, slated for total demolition this summer, and there's an asphalt walking path 2 miles long along the ocean side. I hope someone will post this update to your excellent site.

Anybody remember the turnpike ride ? I have not read anything about that ride I was a mechanic for that ride one summer I would guess 1967, these were gasoline cars with fiberglass bodies (like fancy go carts ) I remember seeing them stored I think in the tunnel, a few years later. Was the tunnel closer to the water ? Anyway that's where I saw them stored. I lived very close to the park until 1969 I used to ride my bike there many times.
