How could people do these horrible things to these people? Mainly little kids. Every time I think about it I start to cry

i can't beleive that so many people were treated like if they had no worth and so messed up. i am reading the letter that mr. lou chapman wrote regarding his two day stay at this facility. i can't help but feel so abandoned and lonely. so imagine being there for years feeling that way. god bless all the lost souls in that place.

There would be a little bit more to it than the "good folks at Pennhurst just sending them away" I guess as a camp counselor you only wanted the good ones. And mentally challenged people also have sex among themselves if you are implying something else was going on.

kids were beaten and abused here. it s a place kids call the devils playground.inside the kids would paint 666 and the gates of hell.no matter how bad a child acts, they should never have to go there.

Inthe mid 70's I was a camp counselor at an Easter Seal camp in Eastern Pa. I spent a lot of time there with wards of Pennhurst. Some of those campers were so far gone they could not have known they were even in a camp. The good folks at Pennhurst just sent them away so they would not have to deal with them for a couple of weeks. I remember one camper who would ask me the same question whenever I would move him to one activity or another, "Are you gonna cornhole me?"
These are the first pictures I've seen of Pennhurst. They match the impression I always had in my mind.

the underground tunnels were the funnest part i'd say. i was down there a little past the administration and snagged a couple vandals bustin their beer bottles so i jumped out from the shaddows and scared the livin shit out of them. but yeah man if anyone has pics of the tunnels get back at me. i'd love to see them again

I am sitting here reading all this and watching a show on A&E called extreme paranormal, these guys are at this very place and calling up spirits of the children that were held there. Really freaking scary to me!! Did they do really bad things to those that were housed there? I was told that is why it was closed, the autorities found out what bad exsperiments they were doing and closed it down.
