On the middle barrel, notice the half-obscured circular logo, with a 'D'. That is half of the Civil Defence (CD) logo. This organization issued air raid supplies to public shelters. FYI

Wow, your pictures are chilling and haunting. The corridors and rooms are reminiscent of the old CI Psych Center buildings me and my friends used to wander through when we were kids. Exceptional photos, brought back some old memories.
As I read the above comments I could not but think of the current situation. We no longer warehouse the mentally ill in huge institutions such as pilgrim rather they are now festering in our jails and as homeless people wandering beyond our perception. Is that really progress?
Former Safety Officer (1975-1980) would like to hear from any former employees. Email address is em3611@optonline.net. Hope to hear from you soon.

I grew up near this hospital. I spent observing this site from Commack Road when I was young. I recently met a nurse that worked in this hospital many years ago and she told me that all the scary stories that we heard as youngsters were all true.

I grew up in the neighborhood just opposite the "Edgewood Hospital Building" across Comac Road in the "60's when this place was active. This building was my view out the front door for 20 years. Talk about eerie..we used to play on the grounds of Pilgrim State Hospital and Edgewood. I was always fascinated with this place. Only once I had seen a documentary on TV with Geraldo Rivera about Pilgrim State. Remember when he used to video "Willowbrook" on Staten Island? Its cool to see this website and everyones interest in this place.
